In 2017 the Dresden State Art Collections sent a display of objects – most notably jewellery, gold and Meissen porcelain from the lavish collection of Augustus the Strong – to Korea, where it was exhibited in Seoul and Gwanju. Now the National Museum of Korea is returning the favour, providing a selection of objects from its own holdings that will go on display in Dresden’s royal palace, which in the early 18th century was rebuilt in the baroque style by Augustus himself (15 March–10 August). The show features everything from porcelain wares to carved roof tiles and jewellery to embroidered clothing, ranging from the 1st century BC to the late 19th century. Perhaps the crowning glories are some of the artefacts unearthed from the burial mound at Geumgwanchong, capital of the Silla kingdom (57 BC–935 AD), including an ornate gold crown dating from the 6th century.
