While many museums remain shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibitions will include shows at institutions that are now reopening as well as digital projects providing virtual access to art and culture.
The American-born photographer Deana Lawson’s immaculately staged images depict the African diaspora across the US and further afield, often pictured in unassuming domestic interiors that imbue the portraits with a strong sense of intimacy. This exhibition of work at the Kunsthalle Basel (9 June–11 October) is organised in collaboration with Fundação Bienal de São Paulo as part of the 34th Bienal de São Paulo, which is set to open later this year. The focus is on recent works, including videos, holograms, and a new series of photographs taken in Salvador, Brazil. Find out more from the Kunsthalle Basel’s website.
