Design Museum appoints Tim Marlow as director and chief executive | Tim Marlow is stepping down as artistic director for the Royal Academy of Arts, having been named as the new director and chief executive of the Design Museum, London. Marlow, who joined the RA in his current role in 2014, is the first chief executive to be appointed by the Design Museum; as director, he replaces Deyan Sudjic and Alice Black, who announced last Friday (4 October) that they would be leaving their posts as co-directors of the museum after 12 years. In a statement, Marlow described the new role as ‘a challenge I have found impossible to resist’.
Feminist exhibition cancelled in Shanghai | A group exhibition in Shanghai entitled ‘We | Woman: One is not born a woman, but rather becomes one’ was cancelled suddenly on 29 September, the day before it was due to open. Speaking anonymously to the Art Newspaper, a participating film-maker said that she had been informed that the topic of the exhibition was deemed too sensitive for it to run at the same time as National Day celebrations, which this year marked 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The organisers have not yet commented on the cancellation.
