Esther Kim & Joseph Varet

Having met in 2009 through their support of New York’s Performa Biennial, Esther Kim and Joseph Varet married in 2011 and moved to Los Angeles, where Kim set up the contemporary art space Various Small Fires. Varet’s interest in art is longstanding: in 2008 he launched Whitney Focus, the museum’s web platform, and he was on the Capital Campaign Committee for the new building as well as chairing the Future Leadership Council. Varet is vice chair of the board of LAXART, while both he and Kim have actively served on many committees, including the Hammer Circle and MoCA’s Art Partners. Their collection includes works by Hans Haacke, Tavares Strachan and Jacob Kassay.
