This September, a landmark exhibition of Ai Weiwei’s works opens at the Royal Academy of Arts. In the first major institutional survey of his artistic career, the display will showcase pieces by the Chinese artist and political activist made since his return to China in 1993, as well as new site-specific installations. Despite being detained in China throughout the planning of the exhibition, the show will feature monumental architectural pieces created for the RA galleries, the artist having virtually navigated the spaces from his studio in Beijing. Having received his passport back from the Chinese government last week, he will now be able to attend the opening of this show.
‘Ai Weiwei’ is at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, from 19 September–13 December 2015.
