Founder and President, Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah
Hoor Al Qasimi founded the Sharjah Art Foundation in 2009 to promote art throughout the UAE. As president she has curated several solo exhibitions, most recently of Amal Kenawy, Hassan Sharif and Yayoi Kusama. She has also co-curated major surveys including ‘The Khartoum School: The Making of the Modern Art Movement in Sudan’ and ‘When Art Becomes Liberty: The Egyptian Surrealists’. She is president of the Africa Institute in Sharjah, and serves on the board of directors for MoMA PS1, New York and Ashkal Alwan, Beirut. She has directed the Sharjah Biennial since co-curating its sixth edition in 2003 and is curator of the Lahore Biennial in 2020.
