Judith Kerr (1923–2019) | The children’s writer and illustrator Judith Kerr, best known for The Tiger Who Came to Tea and the Mog series, has died at the age of 95. Born in Berlin, Kerr and her family fled Germany in 1933, spending time in Switzerland and France before settling in Britain, where she lived for the rest of her life. She published more than 30 books, ranging from picture books to classic children’s novels such as When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.
Designs for Eiffel Tower parks revealed | The British landscape architecture studio Gustafson Porter and Bowman, along with preservation specialists Atelier Monchecourt and Co and urban design firm Sathy, has been selected to redesign the areas around the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The plan, which the architects have named ‘One Line’, will increase the amount of green space on either side of the landmark. The $39 million project will be carried out in phases, with the first due to be completed by 2023 and the second by 2030.
Joan Miró Prize awarded to Nalini Malani | The Indian artist Nalini Malani, known for her immersive and politically charged installation art, has won the 2019 Joan Miró Prize. The biennial prize, which is awarded by the Fundació Joan Miró with the bank La Caixa, comes with an award of €70,000 and a solo exhibition at the foundation in Barcelona. Malani’s show is scheduled to take place in 2020.
