Curator of contemporary art, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam
In 2017 the US-born curator Karen Archey joined the Stedelijk, where she oversees the museum’s collections of contemporary art and time-based media. She has also curated exhibitions with a range of international artists including Charlotte Prodger, Rineke Dijkstra and Metahaven; currently she is organising a large-scale survey of work by the German artist and film-maker Hito Steyerl. Before the move to Amsterdam Archey was editor of e-flux, where she launched the participatory web publishing platform Conversations. Her writing has appeared in many publications, including Art in America, ArtReview, frieze and Spike Art Quarterly; a book-length essay on the history of institutional critique will be published by Floating Opera Press next year. In 2014 she co-organised ‘Art Post-Internet’ at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, a landmark exhibition with artists including Steyerl, Cory Arcangel and Marisa Olson.
