MAC Lyon director Thierry Raspail retires | Thierry Raspail, who has led Lyon’s Musée d’art contemporain since its inception in 1984, has announced that he is retiring from his role. According to Le Monde (French language article), Raspail, who also co-founded the Biennale de Lyon in 1991, will officially leave the museum on 13 April. The search for Raspail’s successor has already begun, with a new director expected to be named over the course of the summer.
Montreal Biennial files for bankruptcy | After years of widely publicised financial difficulties, the Biennale de Montréal has filed for insolvency, reports national art magazine Canadian Art. The biennial, which was established in 1998, last summer announced the cancellation of its 2018 edition due to a deficit of over $200,000 (CAD), owed to more than 30 different creditors. According to documents obtained by Canadian Art, the organisation filed for insolvency on 9 February 2018.
Justine Ludwig appointed director of Creative Time | New York-based arts nonprofit Creative Time has named Justine Ludwig as its next executive director. Ludwig, who takes up her new post on 15 June, arrives from Dallas Contemporary, where she has served as deputy director and chief curator since 2014. She will succeed Katie Hollander, who left Creative Time last June after a year and a half in the role.
Christopher Scoates named director of New York’s Museum of Arts and Design | New York’s Museum of Arts and Design has confirmed that Christopher Scoates is to take up directorship of the institution on 1 July. Scoates, currently director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, will replace Daniel Veneciano, who resigned in January last year after a tenure of just five months.
