An exhibition of contemporary art inaugurates new gallery spaces – part of a $233m revamp – at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art has just completed a $233m renovation of its Beaux-Arts premises; overseen by Frank Gehry, the rejig has yielded some 20,000 sq ft of additional exhibition space, half of which is given over to the museum’s modern and contemporary collection. Inaugurating the latter galleries, ‘New Grit: Art & Philly Now’ presents work by 25 artists with strong connections to the city, ranging from established names such as Howardena Pindell and Alex da Corte to emerging artists (until 22 August).
