This is the Portuguese-born painter’s largest survey in the country of her residence to date. It extends from early visual lampoons of António de Oliveira Salazar’s regime to the surreal explorations of folk tales and the unsettling series such as Dog Women and Abortion – at once stark and enigmatic in their depiction of women – that Rego has made her métier since the 1980s. The exhibition at Tate Britain in London runs from 7 July–24 October. Find out more from Tate’s website.
