Director, Qube Gallery, Cebu City
Founded in Cebu City in 2013, Qube Gallery has made a name for itself throughout the Philippines as one of the leading commercial galleries outside the capital of Manila; Mercado has served as director since 2019 and manages two physical gallery spaces as well as the digital programme. The gallery is committed to the local arts community of Cebu City, collaborating frequently with artists, organisations and spaces across the city to stage exhibitions and programmes; a solo show by Cebu-born artist Mona Alcudia, who has made her career in the Netherlands, is ongoing at the University of the Philippines Cebu. The gallery promotes Filipino artists by participating in fairs across the region, including Art Kaohsiung and Art Tainan in Taiwan, Tokyo International Art Fair, Art Apart in Singapore and Art Central in Hong Kong. It celebrated Independence Day with the exhibition ‘PEARLS’, featuring photographs by Archie Geotina of women surfing in traditional clothing. Alongside her work at the gallery, Mercado is also building her own art collection.
