Chagan Sambhar-a (late 17th–early 18th century), Mongolia, School of Zanabazar
This relatively large Mongolian bronze from the School of Zanabazar presents a benevolent form of this Buddhist divinity. Here he embraces his consort Vajravarahi in a mystical union, symbolising the merging of wisdom and compassion. Both deities are richly crowned, coiffed, and bejewelled. Traces of pigment remain on their hair and faces, highlighting their full lips and curving eyelids.
