Director, New Inc, New York
This summer Salome Asega took on a high-profile role as director of New Inc, an incubator for art, design and technology entrepreneurs run by the New Museum in New York. She previously spent four years as a Technology Fellow at the Ford Foundation, where she supported artists, researchers and organisations working at the intersection of art and tech. But Asega and New Inc have some history: in 2016–17 she was a member of the incubator as one of the co-founders of POWRPLNT, a non-profit in Bushwick that offers free and affordable ‘technology-meets-art’ workshops led by local artists. As an artist, Asega has participated in residencies at Eyebeam and the Laundromat Project (both New York), and exhibited at MoMA, the 11th Shanghai Biennale and Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh. She has also given talks at venues including Performa (New York), Eyeo (Minneapolis), MIT Media Lab (Cambridge, MA), New York University and the Brooklyn Museum and teaches on the MFA in Design and Technology at Parsons School of Design in New York.
