Souls Grown Deep Foundation launches internship scheme for students of colour | The Souls Grown Deep Foundation today announced a new paid museum internship scheme for undergraduate students of colour in the US. Grants will be issued to museums participating in the scheme, allowing students to gain paid work experience in the industry. The first institutions to take part in the scheme, which will launch in spring 2019, are the New Orleans Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
New York appeals court rejects model’s heirs claims to Matisse portrait | An appeals court in New York came to a unanimous ruling on Monday rejecting claims that Matisse’s Portrait of Greta Moll (1908) in London’s National Gallery should be returned to the heirs of the woman who modelled for the painting – Margarete Moll, also known as Greta. Three of Moll’s grandchildren claimed that the painting was stolen and illegally sold after the Second World War, before entering into the National Gallery’s collection in 1979.
Beazley Designs of the Year 2018 shortlist announced | The Design Museum has announced the shortlist for the 11th edition of the Beazley Designs of the Year award. This year’s shortlist features 87 designs from across the world, including Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi and Thomas Heatherwick’s Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. The shortlist was compiled by guest curator Aric Chen, the founder of M+ in Hong Kong, who has said: ‘there is a very pervasive thread that goes throughout the show, which is how designers are embracing the uncertainties that the world is currently confronting.’ The winner is set to be announced on 15 November.
Shortlist for RIBA 2018 International Prize announced | Archdaily reports that four buildings have been selected for the shortlist for The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 2018 International Prize, a biennial award bestowed on a building that ‘exemplifies design excellence, architectural ambition and delivers meaningful social impact’. This year the shortlist includes Boeri Studio and their Il Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest), as well as designs by Nikken Sekkei, Aleph Zero + Rosenbaum and O’Donnell + Tuomey; the winner will be announced on 29 November.
