37 | Founder and Director, Rodeo Gallery, London, UK and Piraeus, Greece
Sylvia Kouvali originally set up Rodeo Gallery in Istanbul in 2007 to represent established artists from Turkey, Greece and Cyprus. She converted a former tobacco warehouse in the traditional, conservative area of Tophane with the explicit aim of connecting otherwise isolated artists. Kouvali has since moved the gallery, opening a new space in Soho in London in 2014, and a second in the port city of Piraeus in Athens in June 2018, which she opened with an exhibition of work by Leidy Churchman, to be followed by work by Liliane Lijn. In London she will soon show a new film by Leslie Thornton and is planning a solo booth with Ian Law for Frieze London.
