Theo Danjuma founded the Danjuma Collection in 2010, with the aim of establishing a contemporary art space in Lagos, Nigeria. It is distinguished by Danjuma’s dual interest in Western and African contemporary art, as he looks to support artists from his generation and promote the work of figures from Africa; in 2014, some 50 works from the collection were shown in Fitzroy Square, London. Among the artists represented are Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Albert Oehlen, Sam Gilliam, Emeka Ogboh, Kudzanai Chiurai, Mary Sibande and Julie Mehretu. In recent years, Danjuma has become involved with the North American Acquisitions Committee at Tate and the Committee on Painting and Sculpture at MoMA.
