Philosopher, Berlin and Hong Kong
Yuk Hui initially studied computer engineering in Hong Kong before a PhD in philosophy at Goldsmiths in London took him in a different direction. He has lectured and written widely on the philosophy of technology and media, publishing books that include On the Existence of Digital Objects (2016) and, most recently, the monograph Art and Cosmotechnics (University of Minnesota Press, 2021). The latter investigates the impact of contemporary technological transformation on the realms of art and philosophy. In 2015 he co-edited and contributed to a collection of essays about the legacy of Jean-Francois Lyotard’s exhibition ‘Les Immatériaux’, which took place in 1985 at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Yuk Hui is an associate professor at the City University in Hong Kong and is a fellow and member of the prize jury at the Berggruen Institute.
