While museums around the world are shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibition openings will be replaced by a selection of digital initiatives providing virtual access to art and culture.
The 22nd Sydney Biennale had just nine days in the sun, but upon closing last month its organisers lost no time in moving the event online. Led by its 100 artists, with the Indigenous Australian artist Brook Andrew as artistic director, the biennial – which stresses the importance of partnership in addressing environmental catastrophe – takes as its title this year the Wiradjuri word nirin (edge). In this spirit, its online offerings include social-media takeovers from artists and collectives, remotely organised community workshops, and even communal cooking sessions, with recipes inspired by the works in the show. There are also a range of videos exploring the projects created by artists for the biennial. Find out more from the Biennale of Sydney’s website.
