Adam Lowe

Director, Factum Arte, Madrid 

In 2001, Adam Lowe moved from London to Madrid to create Factum Arte – a multidisciplinary workshop dedicated to digital mediation to produce works for contemporary artists. Factum Arte now comprises more than 50 staff, ranging from software writers and electrical engineers to welders and casters. In 2009, Lowe created the Factum Foundation with the aim of using Factum Arte’s innovative processes and technologies for preservation, high-resolution recording, education, and the development of exhibitions. Among the many conservation projects Lowe has spearheaded are the reconstruction of the vandalised sacred cave of Kamukuwaká in Brazil and the creation of the 3D Scanning, Training and Archiving Centre in Egypt, to record the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and harness the skills and knowledge of local people. Lowe is an adjunct professor at the MS Historic Preservation at Columbia University, New York; in 2019, he was made a Royal Designer for Industry, awarded by the British Royal Society of Arts.
