Founder and Co-Director, Beirut Art Residency, Beirut
Amar A. Zahr founded the non-profit Beirut Art Residency (BAR) in 2015 as a ‘live-work space’ for both emerging and established artists. BAR promotes cross-cultural exchange, broadening the horizons of local artists while also familiarising international artists with Beirut as a contemporary cultural hub; it has brought artists to the city from the UK, the United States, South Africa, Yemen, Turkey, Syria and Iraq, among other countries. Before founding BAR, Zahr undertook residencies as an artist in Istanbul and at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and held positions at Art Dubai and the Jalanbo Collection; she is also co-founder of CUB Gallery, dedicated to displaying the work of student artists from fine art programmes across Lebanon.
