Whistler’s work made a poor first impression on Charles Lang Freer, but when the collector purchased artist’s Second Venice Set of 26 etchings at the advice of his business associate Howard Mansfield in 1887, his opinion changed dramatically. This exhibition looks again at the important set of works, and the impact it made on Freer’s approach to art and collecting.
