Carolee Schneemann (1939–2019) | Carolee Schneemann, a pioneer of feminist art, has died at the age of 79. In 2017 Schneemann was awarded the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, recognising her achievements across disciplines – from painting to celebrated performances such as Meat Joy (1964) and Up to and Including her Limits (1973). Venice Biennale releases list of artists | The full list of 79 artists who will take part in the central exhibition at the 2019 Venice Biennale has been announced. The exhibition, ‘May You Live in Interesting Times’, curated by Ralph Rugoff, will run from 11 May–24 November.
Funding granted for Hepworth sculpture in Hertfordshire | The Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (PMSA) has granted £30,000 to the University of Hertfordshire for the conservation of Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture Vertical Forms (1952). The sculpture will be removed from the façade of the university building for the first time since it was made, and will go on display in an exhibition at St Albans Museum and Art Gallery later this month.
