Claire Hsu

Co-founder and Director, Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong

As a student, Claire Hsu was frustrated by the lack of reference material on contemporary Chinese art and raised $1million (HK) to set up the Asia Art Archive (with Johnson Chang) in 2000. It is now the largest physical and online record of recent exhibitions in the region – a remarkable outcome for what Hsu once decribed as ‘a personal project to solve a personal problem’. But the Archive has also grown far beyond that objective to become a document of recent histories of art in Asia. Among other roles, Hsu also sits on the museum and acquisition boards of the M+ museum, and on the board of the Foundation for Arts Initiatives. No surprise, then, that she was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2013.
