With sculptures you can skateboard on, jazzed-up beach huts, and snarky messages from Gilbert and George, the fifth edition of the Folkestone Triennial returns to the coast of Kent this summer. The seaside event is among the largest displays of new work in the UK; 23 commissioned pieces are on show this year, most of them in public spaces. Titled ‘The Plot’, the display this year has been curated by Lewis Biggs to reflect on various moments in Folkestone’s history, as well as the town’s urban myths. As well as Rana Begum’s painted beach huts (titled Arpeggio) and Assemble’s Skating Situations, highlights include work by Atta Kwami and Richard Deacon.
