Its name alluding to the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC is a collective of eight (formerly nine) artists that was formed at Art Dubai in 2013. Scattered internationally and communicating with each other primarily through WhatsApp, the members produce videos and installations that explore the relationships between power, branding and nation-building while satirising aspects of culture and politics in the Gulf region. The group has been included in numerous museum exhibitions and biennials around the world, including the Whitney Biennial, the Berlin Biennale and the New Museum, New York; it has had monographic shows at venues including MoMA PS1 in New York and the Sharjah Art Foundation.
