Independent curator, Jakarta
Samboh has spoken of the desire to have ‘three copies’ of herself, to manage the huge number of diverse projects she manages to take on as an independent curator and researcher. Born in Jakarta, Samboh entered the art world in 2007 by assisting the Indonesian collective ruangrupa with their OK Video Militia project, before being commissioned by the Indonesian Visual Art Archive to curate the exhibition ‘21 Years of the Jogja Biennale’. Delving into archives remains central to Samboh’s work; at present she is working on a publication about the Indonesian New Art Movement of 1975–89. Recent curatorial projects Samboh has worked on include a vast survey of contemporary art from South East Asia, spanning the 1980s and the present, held at the Mori Art Museum and the National Art Center in Tokyo (2019), and shows at the Factory Contemporary Art Center in Ho Chi Minh City (2018) and ROH Projects in Jakarta (2016).
