While museums around the world are shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibition openings will be replaced by a selection of digital initiatives providing virtual access to art and culture.
Not all virtual museum tours are created equal. The recently renovated Groeningemuseum in Bruges has just launched a 360-degree tour of its collection, which spans six centuries of art in the Low Countries. The high-resolution panoramic photos are accompanied by a large quantity of additional information (most of which is available in four languages) about the works on view. Each room has an introductory text, supplemented by captions for individual artworks and audio guide extracts, plus slideshows of images that zoom into the details of some paintings. A deep dive into the world of Belgian art, from the Flemish Primitives to fin-de-siècle Symbolism and Expressionism in the 1920s. Visit the Musea Brugge website to take the tour.
