Jasmina Cibic’s work focuses on the potential of art and architecture as tools for the communication of statehood. Expressed through film, sculpture and installation, as well as performative elements, her work draws the viewer’s attention to the ways in which national culture has been constructed – and the way in which art is often an instrument of ‘soft power’. Cibic represented Slovenia at the 55th Venice Biennale and has exhibited at MoMA, New York, and more recently at the BALTIC, Gateshead, in which she produced a site-specific installation to show the latest of her Nada film trilogy. She was shortlisted for the Jarman Award this year and is currently preparing to exhibit at DHC/ART, Montreal and the 57th October Salon in Belgrade.
