Since joining the Kunsthistorisches Museum in 2011, the British-born curator and art historian Jasper Sharp has transformed its approach to modern and contemporary art. His programme encompasses major monographic exhibitions (on Lucian Freud and Joseph Cornell), annual displays in the Temple of Theseus, and invitations to artists such as Ed Ruscha and Edmund de Waal to work with the historical collection. Sharp began his career at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, where he worked from 1999–2005 before moving to Austria in 2006; he was the commissioner of the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2013 and organised the talks programme at Frieze Masters from 2012–15.
