With Phillips strengthening its claim on the Asian market, the appointment of Jonathan Crockett earlier this year was an unquestionably savvy hire. Crockett brings not only a wealth of auction house experience, having worked at Christie’s London and later at Sotheby’s in both London and Hong Kong, but also a rich knowledge of Chinese art and culture. He trained in Chinese language and art history in London and Oxford, spent several years living in Beijing, and worked in the field of classical Chinese art before turning his attention to the burgeoning contemporary Asian market, as well as Western modern and contemporary art.
