Joy Buolamwini

 Joy Buolamwini describes herself as a ‘poet of code’, who uses art and research to illuminate the social implications of AI. The Ghanaian-American computer scientist and digital activist founded the Algorithmic Justice League in 2016 to create more equitable and accountable technology and to examine algorithmic racial and gender bias. Her work was the subject of Coded Bias, a Netflix documentary released last year. Her spoken word poem and video AI, Ain’t I A Woman? has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Barbican Centre in London and her writing has been published in TIME magazine and the New York Times. She is a researcher at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and serves on the Global Tech Panel convened by the European Commission to offer advice to policymakers on reducing the potential harms of AI.
