When its Hong Kong space launched in 2012, Simon Lee Gallery was one of the first international galleries to open in the city. The venture was overseen by Katherine Schaefer, who had worked for Lee since 2009, having previously completed a Masters at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. And while she represents the gallery’s roster of artists in Hong Kong, she has also devised a programme that chimes with local artistic developments: Simon Lee Gallery was the first Western gallery in town to present a group show of Hong Kong artists.
