Beijing, China
‘We want to be the MoMA of China.’ So says Michael Xufu Huang about M WOODS in Beijing, the private not-for-profit museum of which he is the co-founder. The museum presents single-artist and group exhibitions; Huang was instrumental in bringing a major Andy Warhol show (of video and installation works) to China this year. His own collection – which he began aged 16 – focuses on international contemporary art, with a particular interest in post-internet artists such as Amalia Ulman and Simon Denny. Educated in London and Philadelphia, Huang is the youngest member of the New Museum’s International Leadership Council.
