Apollo
Art Diary

Pompeii

10 July 2020

While some museums remain shuttered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibitions will include shows at institutions that are now reopening as well as digital projects providing virtual access to art and culture.

Since the initiation of the Great Pompeii Project in 2012, there has been a stream of remarkable archaeological discoveries at the Roman site, including the excavation of three villas – the House with Garden, House of Leda, and House of Orion – along with their sumptuous frescoes and mosaics. This display at the Grand Palais combines objects unearthed during these recent digs with photographs and immersive video reconstructions of the original houses, giving viewers an insight both into the ancient city and the excavation campaign. Find out more from the Grand Palais’s website.
