When Simon Denny left New Zealand for Frankfurt, the distance from home made him aware of the potential for global networks brought about by innovations such as the iPhone. Working with sculpture, installation and video to unpack the cultural, ethical and economic systems that underscore Big Tech, Denny – who conceives of himself as a brand, and of his works as products – prompts a dialogue with the politics of our time. He represented New Zealand at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, and recent solo exhibitions include those at MOCA Cleveland, the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels and the Serpentine Galleries, London. This year he was made a professor of time-based media at HFBK Hamburg.
