Tobias Gombert

A regular on the art scene in Basel, Tobias Gombert bought his first artwork at one of the city’s art fairs – a painting by the Berlin-based artist Christian Awe. He has since collected the work of more than 20 contemporary artists, including works by Kenneth Noland, Katharina Grosse and Wolfgang Tillmans although, as he told Larry’s List in 2013, he is less interested in big names than in building a rapport with artists and understanding their work. Gombert has been actively involved with a number of institutions through patrons groups, including the Friends of the Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the Friends of Kunsthalle Basel.
