This week’s Art Diary marks the beginning of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2022 with our pick of highlights from the programme
Ceramic artworks and preparatory paper sketches by the London-based artist are on show at Edinburgh’s Fruitmarket gallery (until 25 September). The exhibition opens with The Audience (2022), an installation of multi-coloured ceramic busts, arranged in two rows across a tabletop to convey the appearance of an expectant crowd. Alongside the ceramic display, an accompanying series of animated pencil drawings elaborates on the artist’s process of conveying a sense of movement in the sculptural works. In the gallery’s upper exhibition spaces, smaller clay sculptures – such as Untitled (2019) – are displayed on tables which the artist has embellished with large clay feet. Find out more on Fruitmarket’s website.
