The Albertina Museum in Vienna marks its acquisition of the Jablonka Collection in 2019 – the collection of German and American artworks belonging to the art dealer Rafael Jablonka – with an exhibition (27 July–23 October) dedicated to the Italian-American painter Francesco Clemente. Supplemented by key works from the museum’s collection, the exhibition concentrates on the artist’s self-portraiture, with works including the characterful Self-portrait in White, Red and Black I (2008) and The Fool (Self-Portrait) (2008–11). The exhibition also considers Clemente’s life and travels, charting the artist’s time spent in Italy, India and the United States, where he now lives, and the impressions he formed.
