While some museums are closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apollo’s usual weekly pick of exhibitions will include shows at institutions that are currently open as well as digital projects providing virtual access to art and culture.
The Royal Opera House in London continues to bring theatrical spectacle into our front rooms with the #OurHouseToYourHouse programme. Next Friday evening (5 February) it offers a streamed performance of Puccini’s late work Il Trittico (The Triptych), staged at the ROH in 2011. The suite of three one-act operas, first performed in 1918, presents variations on the theme of concealing a death, from the darkly violent Il Tabarro, set aboard a barge on the Seine, to the light-hearted farce Gianni Schicchi, based on an episode from Dante’s Divine Comedy. The film will be available to watch until Sunday 7 March; the ROH’s programme continues on 12 February with Rudolf Nureyev’s production of the third act of Raymonda by Marius Petipa.
